Classes open

A TOTAL of 1,357,026 students from the Kindergart­en to Senior High School are expected to report to their respective classes as school year 2018–2019 kicks off today, June 4, the Department of Education (Deped) Davao Region reported.

Deped-Davao spokespers­on Jenielito Atillo said out of the 1,357,026 students, 1,160,728 are expected to attend class in public schools and 196,298 in private schools. He added that those who will fail to report will be marked as absent.

For the public schools, there are 732,294 students from Kindergart­en to Grade 6; 162,836 students from Grade 7 to Grade 10; and 65,910 in Senior High School, while private schools will have 66,476 students in elementary; 62,970 in secondary; and 66,849 in Senior High School.

Atillo said the department and the schools here in the region are all set for the opening of classes. He added

that the Brigada Eskwela has been a big help in preparing the schools for the students who will resume their class by Monday.

As part of the Deped's Oplan Balik Eskwela, various government agencies and private partners detailed plans and preparatio­n for the opening of the school year 2018-2019.

In a memorandum of the DepEd, this year’s school year shall formally open on June 4, 2018 and shall end Friday, April 5, 2019. The learners are expected to be in school for a total of 200 class days.

This year's school year consists of 208 school days inclusive of the five-day InService Training and three days for the Parent-Teacher Conference­s conducted within the school year.

Private schools may deviate from this school calendar. But they cannot start their classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August.

All schools should notify in advance to their respective regional offices regarding any deviation from the school calendar.
