CTTMO orders hastening of traffic lights repair

-

THE DAVAO City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has ordered the fast tracking of the repair of the defective traffic lights.

CTTMO chair Dionisio Abude told reporters yesterday that an inventory was done to the 12-yearold lights that were found to be in dysfunctional state due to its defective wires.

"During the inspection we saw that the problem is in the wirings. [The lights] are flashing and would have double colors because wires get grounded when it rains. The wires also had been worn out after it has been bitten off by animals. That is what we found in the inventory," he said.

He also said the wirings buried beneath the ground are also affected by the diggings and road widening done by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Davao City Water District (DCWD).

Abude said the the city will have to procure wiring replacement for the these traffic lights to properly work.

He said that the usual procurement process will

take one and a half months or two months.

“Once the material purchased arrives, we will prioritize the rewiring,” he said.

Abude said that based on their inventory, 21 traffic lights in the city are problematic.

He added that the need for repairs for the meter and power connection of traffic lights near the Fransisco Bangoy International Airport has also come to their attention as an accident was reported within the area due to the defective lights.

Since the problem is with power, they have already contacted the Davao Light and Power Corporation for the repair of the power meter.

Since the lights are defective, Abude said that 180 out of 250 newly-hired CTTMO traffic enforcers had been deployed to man the streets in two shifts.
