MOA giving cops own ward at SPMC signed

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on Monday with the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) and Toyota Davao City, Inc (TCDI) where local police will now have an exclusive ward inside the hospital when seeking medical treatment.

DCPO spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said SPMC will provide the location and space for DCPO’s Ward composed of two separate rooms with a total capacity of six beds but they may add more beds should the need arises.

The MOA also entails that SPMC will administer the management of patients, conduct pre-operational surgical services, and provide surgical care to patients. The Department of Surgery of SPMC will provide surgical services to the DCPO Ward.

For their part, TDCI

will shoulder the renovations of the rooms identified for DCPO, from masonry to full furnishing.

She added that only active members of DCPO are eligible for admission to the DCPO Ward subject to the availability of beds. The same is limited only to stable surgical patient, not requiring Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where hospital expenses will be covered by Philhealth.

However, she underscored that the agreement does not cover the immediate members of the family of DCPO personnel should they need medical assistance.

Meanwhile, DCPO expressed their gratitude to Toyota and SPMC.

“The men and women of Davao City Police Office will be doubly inspired and committed towards their sworn duties to Serve and Protect the people and visitors of Davao City with this remarkable support shown by these valuable sectors of our society,” Gaspan said.

The MOA signing was held on June 4. Present during the signing were by Ricardo Audan, who represented Dr. Leopoldo Vega, Medical Center Chief (SPMC); Department of Surgery represented by its Director, Dr. Mark Edward Maruya; Toyota Davao City, Inc (TCDI) represented by Boyet Lim, President of Toyota Davao and Davao City Police Office director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander C.
