Ateneo, PWC share cagefest top honors
THE Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights and the Philippine Womens College (PWC) Patriots shared top honors at the close of the Basketball Avenue Future Star League at the Goldstar Gym in Bo. Obrero over the weekend.
The Blue Knights demolished the Patriots, 54-38, in the elite division finals.
Tristan Bibay, who was named most valuable player (MVP), led the Blue Knights also composed of Samuel Torres, Al-Zaki Sangki, Andre Cayoca, Felix Domingo, Alex Almario, A.J. Jesuro, J.P. Lantajo, Jet Andrion, Eio Dela Cruz, Ghian Cornejo and Gerald Bernadas.
Ateneo head coach Harry Hipolito said the experience gave his players a big boost for their upcoming stints in the Milo Best, Davao Association of Catholic Schools and Gaisano Grand Cup, among others.
"Because of this league, we have a twomonth head start in training and inculcating our system to the new kids which is very advantageous in the adjustment time," Hipolito shared.
Winning the title, according to him, includes rigorous training and application of system.
"Fortunately, the kids embraced and appreciated our system and I think that's a big part in winning the tournament," he added.
The mythical five in the elite division: Torres, Al Bagundang, Justine Redulla, Adrienne Macavinta and Jacob Farochillen.
Meanwhile, the Patriots subdued San Pedro College, 36-30, to annex the rising star division title.
Omar Rutia, who mentored PWC, on the services of MVP Rhysuss Bajenting, Aeron Luague, Al Jabir Hernandez, Lucas Yeo, Raphael Galicia, Zandrei Go, Achellis John D Joting, Rysus Rrafael Bajenting, Leo Duran, Felipe Barez, Stuart Co, Euan Duy and Chris Titus Pepico.
Bajenting joined Matt Cayetano, John Alpapara, Zeroun Montojo and Rowe Isaac Tavita in the mythical five.ABM
