- By Karina V. Cañedo

KADAYAWAN sa Davao 2018 will be celebrated earlier than usual, an official said.

Davao City Tourism Operations Office officer-in-charge Generose Tecson said that changes on the scheduling of the yearly festival will take effect this year since they plan to start it on August 10.

"It will be a longer celebration," she said.

Tecson said that the Hiyas ng Kadayawan is also eyed to be held on August 11 to allow its winners to participate in all the Kadayawan events.

Nightly celebrations of the 11 tribes will be held at Magsaysay Park.

The tribal village is also planned to be rearranged, and another food hall exclusively for the tribe will be opened to serve tribal delicacies.

"Pananam food hall will be opened, so not just the (tribal) houses will serve food, and the tribe will earn more income," Tecson said.

Dragonboat, Sayaw Kadayawan, Mugna Kadayawan, Tunog Kadayawan, Habi Kadayawan, Dula Kadayawan, and Indak-Indak are among the events last year that will also be staged this year.

A twist planned for the Indak-Indak is the Philippine Eagle cosplay (costume play), to highlight the Philippine Eagle as one of the city's icons.

"Ginagawa pa ang mechanics kung individual or team ba," she said.
