Council ok’s new Globe cell towers, antennas

-

18th Davao City Council has approved last week the construction of nine cell site towers and antennas of Globe Telecommunications in various areas within the city.

Globe, has made six requests for a resolution of no objection for the projects and all of it got the council's nod on second reading.

This covers the installation of the Globe Telecom's 40.0 meter self support tower (SST) in four areas, namely Barangay Catalunan Pequeño, Talomo District; Purok 8, Barangay Tacunan, Tugbok District; at the compound of Episcopal Diocese of Davao, McArthur Highway, Barangay Matina Crossing 74-A; and at Rolling Hills Subdivision, Bacaca.

Also approved were requests for the maintenance and operation of antenna monopole towers on top of the building of FTC Tower, located at Mt. Apo St., Barangay Malvar 7-A, Poblacion District and Barangay Ilang.

The installation of Globe cell site antenna at Ramon Magsaysay ParkBarangay Santa Ana 27-C; Davao City Slaughterhouse-Barangay Ma-a;

and Don Lorenzo Subdivision Bato, Toril District was also approved.

Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag told Sun.Star Davao that the new cell sites can greatly benefit the city.

"The approval of new cell sites in different locations in the city will improve the phone signal and internet speed in the area. As a growing city, I am glad that the mobile company is also responding positively to the challenge," he said.

He added that since more communities are being built in the city, the city council is still open to accept applications for construction of cell sites.

Committee on transportation and communication chair Conrado Baluran, the proponent of the items said in last Tuesday's Pulong pulong ni Pulong media forum that they also asked telecommunication companies to also build cell sites in far flung areas in the city.

Baluran enumerated two barangays from third district, Tambobong and Megcawayan, and barangays in Paquibato in second district as among the areas that in dire need for signal.

He said currently, in accordance to the law, any company who seeks to build cell sites must pass first at SP for resolution of no objection.

"They cannot have any movement or anything without such resolution," Baluran said. KVC
