Death by Suicide: What Gives?
Clinical and social psychologist and psychiatrist have come up with scientific-based research explanations as to the cause of suicide(i.e., mental disorder, depression, bipolar, personality disorders, schizophrenia, lack of self-worth, substance abuse, alcoholism etc.). Perhaps, this time around, they might want to seriously consider in their studies the absence of, or lack thereof of spirituality in one’s person’slife.
In America, and the kind of global order that we live in, we are so much driven by materialism (where we measure success in terms of material things that one possesses),such that,in the process we somehow tend to forget Allah/God in our lives, who is actually the bearer of all the bounties and blessings that we have in life. The fountain of inner joy, inner peace and life’s contentment can only happen through spiritual nourishment and living a moral life. With God’s guidance, responsibly balancing spiritual wealth versus material wealth. When we lost our spiritual and moral compass, for good or for ill,our material possessions become a liability.
I am not saying that the suicide deaths of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade and as well as other celebrities in the past – may their soul rest in peace – were due to the absence of God in their lives. But this is what we know, they all have one thing in common – fame, wealth and power. And yet, despite literally “sitting on top of the world”, they still decided to take their own life. What then gives? We really do not know because “dead men tell no tales.” But this is what I can say – in life, money is not everything. Money will not make us whole as a person. Money or wealth alone will not bring usultimate joy and happiness. Devoid of moral bearing and spirituality, men’s material successes in life is nothing.
Remember, the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and wisdom is to depart from evil and it ably helps a person to fight whatever “inner demons” that permeates in his mind.
