Talomo Bridge closure

DPWH to close bridge from June 20-22

- By Karina V. Cañedo

A 44-hour closure of Talomo Bridge 1 is set to start on June 20-22 for the dry run of the road widening project at Talomo Bridge 2.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-11) chief information officer Dean Ortiz told members of the media yesterday that the road will be closed from 4 a.m. of June 20 up to 11:59 p.m. of June 22.

“This is due to the dry run for the widening of additional four lanes of Talomo Bridge 2, and approaches along Davao Cotabato road,” he said.

He said that the implementation of the project is yet to be determined.

During the time when the bridge is closed, the Talomo-Puan Road will be exclusive only to southbound traffic. And the northbound route from Ulas to Bangkal junction section of McArthur Highway will also be one-way.

He said that the widening is a 2016 project which was put on hold due to the difficulty of acquiring road right of way (RROW) for the construction of a detour bridge somewhere in Talomo.

“But now that the Talomo-Puan bypass road is operational which can serve as an alternate route, the regional office has decided to pursue the project,” Ortiz said.

He added that advisories will be placed along strategic sections to inform motorists of the closure and the alternate routes to take.

Ortiz said that the project is seen to be completed within 266 days from the date of mplementation.
