Stellar cast in city’s Independence Day event
A star-studded Independence Day Celebration took Dabawenyos by surprise yesterday as world-renowned singer Apl.de.ap, and Jessica Reynoso of the Voice PH, graced the commemoration of the country’s 120th Independence held at Rizal Park.
Apl.de.ap, whose real name is Allann Pineda Lindo, and Reynoso entertained Dabawenyos who joined the celebration of the country’s Independence.
Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio, city department heads, councilors from Sangguniang Panlungsod, ambassadors and chamber officials from China, Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia, uniformed personnel and various groups of Masons and veterans, among others, witnessed the song numbers.
Guest Speaker Major General Noel Clement, Army’s 10th Infantry Division commander, said that the real essence of Independence is to fight and contribute to the changes, protecting the independence that was claimed by the heroes of the past.
Duterte-Carpio, in her message, echoed what Clement said stating that protecting freedom can be done only by obeying the laws properly.
“I take it from the message of the guest speaker, there is a need for us to fight for change that will result to the prosperous life by obeying laws, by paying our taxes, by taking care of the environment,” Duterte-Carpio said, adding that each one is empowered to contribute to make change.
