City turns over P3.3-M vehicles for food aid
THE city Government of Davao turned over worth P3.3 million vehicles to barangays for faster delivery food assistance to communities, especially during times of disasters and emergencies.
Based on a report from the City Information Office (CIO), three new “Kusina ng Bayan” vehicles were deployed to the Barangay Cultural Communities and Affairs Division (BCCAD) of the Office of the City Mayor.
Jose Ong, the head of BCCAD, said the three new Hyundai H100 units will boost the “Kusina ng Bayan” program.
“This will strengthen the Kusina ng Bayan program because previously, we are only renting our vehicles. Now that we have our own vehicles, it will be easier for us to deliver food assistance our communities,” Ong said in an interview.
Ong said with the vehicles, they could readily respond to as many areas on the event of a disaster.
“It would be of great help, especially during flash-floods or other caDAVAO
lamities,” he said.
The brand new vehicles were presented during Monday’s regular flag ceremony.
Currently, the city government has two other mobile kitchens under the City Social Services and Development Office. The mobile kitchens served Dabawenyos in time of Typhoon Vinta and fire incidents.
The Kusina ng Bayan program was launched last year to serve food to calamity victims.
