New Globe cell towers to boost signal here

THE installation and maintenance of Globe Telecommunication’s cell site towers and antennas in the different areas in the city will help distribute signal and may result to a more convenient communication for Dabawenyos, said and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Davao official.

An earlier report published that the Davao City Council has already approved on final reading the construction of nine cell sites and antennas by Globe Telecommunications. Six 40-meter selfsupport towers (SSTs) will be installed in the four different areas in the city specifically in Brgy. Catalunan Pequeñno, Talomo District; Purok 8, Brgy. Tacunan, Tugbok District; Episcopal Diocese of Davao compound, McArthur Highway, Brgy. Matina Corssing 74-A; and at the Rolling Hills Subdivision, Bacaca, Davao City.

The council also approved requests for the maintenance and operation of the company’s antenna monopole towers located on top of FTC Tower, Mt. Apo St., Brgy. Malvar 7-A, Poblacion District and in Brgy. Ilang.

There will also be cell site antenna that the company will install at Ramon Magsaysay Park, Brgy. Sta. Ana, Davao City Slaughterhouse in Brgy. Ma-a, and in Don Lorenzo Subdivision, Brgy. Bato, Toril District.

In an interview with ICT Davao president Atty. Samuel Matunog he said these towers and antennas will be very beneficial to the city as Globe Telecom’s wireless network will be improved.

“We’re looking forward to a better distribution of signal of Globe in the entire city. The establishment of the towers and antenna of Globe may not really necessarily mean a faster or an immediately higher speed of connection because it will really depend on the internet plan someone is registered in or even their unit used,” Matunog said adding that the speed of the one’s internet and telecommunication provider’s

signal may also be affected by atmospheric conditions and not just only by the number of cell site towers in the area.

Matunog also addressed the fear of some that living somewhere near cell site towers may have bad effects to the health of the residents. He, however, said that so far no such cases have yet to be reported in the city.

“Of course other people may be concerned about the harmful effects that may be caused by living near a cell site tower but I am sure, with Globe Telecom doing it for a long time now, they will take necessary precautions already. Researches may have also shown that the radiation effect to the residents may be tolerable and not that harmful,” Matunog said.
