Brgy. Maa tops Carmen sepak takraw

THE Barangay Maa Team of Davao City emerged champion in the 50th Araw ng Carmen Sepak Takraw Invitational Tournament that closed recently in Carmen, Davao del Norte over the weekend.

Barangay Maa, coached by Ruel Yataza, stunned Palarong Pambansa 2018 silver medalist Panabo City Team A, 21-16, 19-21, 15-12, in the finals of regu event.

The victory came on the heels of beating Panabo Team B in the semifinals.

Yataza, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said the team underwent a training camp from April to May.

"Natiming lang kay gikan pa mi ug training tapos naka apil dayun mi ug tournament. Murag exposure nasad ni ug tune-up game para sa mga mas dagko na competitions kay diri sad namo makita ang mga dapat i-improve (It's good that we had training before we competed in the tournament that serves as tune-up for bigger competitions)," Yataza said. His team was composed of Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) and Batang Pinoy players.

The team was bannered by Bryan Jay Gernale, Jieremy Anino, Janmark Tamor, Jimboy Oracion and Christian Jay Manggubat.

The team dedicated the win to outgoing Barangay Maa captain Oliva Cal and Maa National High School principal Romeo Camilotes.

Maa National High School, meanwhile, finished fourth with players Adrian and Datu Ken Interino, Stephen Dave Kilayco and Justine Keth Celerinos. Eugene Mosqueda coached the team. ABM
