P2.8M Teen Center delayed

-

THE approval for the construction of the P2.8million Teen Center was deferred anew as the Davao City Council could still not agree on what particular area in Camus Street it will be put up.

Chair of Committee on City Owned Real Properties Councilor Bonifacio Militar has already moved for the deferment after Councilor Elias Lopez said he cannot identify the portion of the road to be suppressed, on which the structure will be built, even though a map was attached.

Militar also noted that during the hearing for the item not a single representative from the executive

department showed up to explain further details of the project.

The resolution inviting the passage of ordinance for the road suppression was forwarded to Militar’s office by co-chairperson of REFTAF, Atty. Zuleika Lopez last May 2.

The resolution No. 1 series of 2018 bares that the REFTAF has approved of the suppression of 425 sq meter portion of Camus St. where the Old City Health Office was located.

“The suppression of Camus St. equivalent to 425 sq. meters will not disrupt the City’s Comprehensive Development Plan and the Road Network of Davao City,” the resolution read.

Initially, the Department of Health has appropriated funds for the construction of the proposed Teen center and a budget has already been allocated for its construction. However, it cannot be utilized unless the street is suppressed since it is delineated as part of the road lot.

Lopez yesterday said that he needs more elaborate explanation of the map. As the map shown yesterday do not clearly label the nearby areas which portion of the road will be suppressed.

He argued that the council cannot just decide on road suppression without enough details.

Militar after moving for the deferment of the item, said he will invite members of REFTAF next session to discuss the topic.KVC
