TAGUM CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY
Taking pride in the country’s liberation from its colonists, the City Government of Tagum celebrated the 120th Philippine Independence Day last June 12, 2018 to commemorate the declaration of Philippine independence, all the while culminating the National Flag Days celebration.
The event kicked-off with a flag raising ceremony, led by City Mayor Allan L. Rellon along with the other City Officials and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez who was the event’s guest of honor and speaker, followed by a symbolic releasing of doves which signified the spirit of freedom.
Participants from various agencies, offices and institutions then flocked to the New City Hall Atrium to take part in the program that would present the significance of Philippine independence and stir Filipino pride in the hearts of Tagumenyos.
In his keynote speech, Speaker Alvarez shared his insights on freedom and independence.
This commemorative event initiated by the City Historical, Cultural and Arts Council ended with a ceremonial burning of wornout Philippine flags led by the BSP Tagum City Council, to avoid misuse or desecration of such flags as specified under the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, jobseekers and entrepreneurs from Tagum and neighboring towns gathered at the New City Hall in the afternoon, to avail the services offered in the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan Job and Business Fair conducted by the City Public Education and Employment Services Office.
The event is in partnership with other national government agencies such as the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Education.
The success of the Kalayaan Job and Business Fair as well as the Independence Day celebration also reflects the City Government’s full support of its developmental thrusts for Employment and Culture under the EAGLE WINGS Program. DREx RAFOLS/ CIO TAGuM
