Davao Central 911 tops Int'l Paramedic contest
THE Davao City Central Communication and Emergency Response Center (Central 911) ended the International Paramedic Competition, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Asia 2018 on a high note as they emerged as the champion team among all competitors during the final round on Tuesday at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier.
Dr. Roze Mauro of Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) Emergency Medicine said that the Central 911 bested the Singapore Civil Defense Force who got second place and Makati City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office who got third place.
There were initially 10 teams who competed at the start of the preliminary competition held last Saturday, June 16, at Davao Crocodile Park, Davao City. These were composed of two teams from Malaysia, two from Taiwan, two from Thailand, two from Davao Central 911, and one team each from the Singapore and Makati City.
Only three were left at the final round where the teams underwent several challenges they had to work as a team and as individuals.
The event aimed to promote and advocate pre-hospital care and EMS
system in the Asian communities. It was also geared to test the ability of each participating team in handling and responding to emergencies outside a hospital. This is also an avenue to network with other counterparts in different countries in Asia and collaborate for the advancement of EMS systems.
The activity was organized by the Asian Association for Emergency Medical Services and hosted by the SPMC.
Present during the awarding were Davao City Council Chair for Committee on Peace and Public Safety Councilor Mabel Acosta and Central 911 chief Emmanuel Jaldon.
The Central 911 team is also the recipient of Asian Association of EMS Institutional Award.
"Truly something to be proud of. #TatakDavao," Acosta wrote in her Facebook post.
Jaldon, for his part, said,”The weight of the points were anchored on pre-hospital basic interventions w/c is 911 EMS team strength. Singapore's strength was on the advance intervention but it accounts lesser sa total points. That is the reason we won. We almost perfected the basic aspect. That puts us on the map in the EMS world. This victory will inspire the EMTs/ EMS practitioners in the Philippines."
The Davao City Central 911 is an emergency response system established in 2002. They receive calls and dispatch center that will link the residents needing assistance may it be Emergency Medical Services, Fire Auxiliary Services Unit, K-9 Units, Police Assistance an Urban Search and Rescue Unit.
