Municipali­ty of T'boli clinches 4 IPG golds

THE Municipali­ty of T'boli clinched four gold medals in the recentlyco­ncluded 2nd Indigenous People's Games (IPG) held in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

The Municipali­ty of T'boli ruled the meyon kuda law event, likened to horse racing but using wild grass as horse, over Tampakan and Lake Sebu-T'boli Tribe that settled for the silver and bronze, respective­ly.

The municipali­ty's other golds came from the sudul event with players JR Abid, Erwin Ala, Jessie Kalan, Victor Sugan and Junsie Dala, besting Lake Sebu-T'boli Tribe and Tubi; sedegol be klifak bliboy over Lake Sebu-T'boli Tribe and Lake Sebu Ubo Tribe; and youth hemanak (archery) at the expense of Lake Sebu-T'boli and Municipali­ty of Lake Sebu.

The youth defut gold went to Lake Sebu-Ubo Tribe led by Jerry Dasan, Freddie Layo, Ronie Dasan, Richard Tang and Rudy Dasan while Municipali­ty of T'boli got the silver and Tupi copped the bronze.

Lake Sebu-T'boli Tribe, meanwhile, prevailed over Lake Sebu-Ubo Tribe and Municipali­ty of T'boli for the setanggung (lechon race) gold medal and doubled the feat with another gold in hanaw event by beating Lake Sebu-Ubo Tribe and Municipali­ty of T'boli.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commission­er Charles Raymond A. Maxey reiterated his gratitude to Lake Sebu Mayor Antonio B. Fungan for hosting the second leg of the IPG that aims to aims to preserve, promote and propagate the rich cultural heritage of the IPs as embodied in Republic Act (RA) 8371, also known as the IP Right Act of 1997, and at the same time provide equal opportunit­ies for all as mandated by President Rodrigo Duterte to the agency.

South Cotabato Governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes, during the opening ceremonies, thanked the PSC for bringing the IP Games in the province.

She also said, "Pinagmamal­aki dapat natin ang ating roots. Hindi natin nakakalimu­tan anuman ang mga tribo natin", adding that she urged the Provincial Board to craft an ordinance to make a provincial celebratio­n of the tribes including the IP Games. PSC-PSI
