PSC to hold 3-day anti-doping summit

MANILA - The Philippine Sports Commission will hold an anti-doping summit and seminar at the Philippine Internatio­nal Convention Center (PICC) with Southeast Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organizati­on (SEA-RADO) Director General, Dir. Gobinathan Nair and Dr. Jose Raul Canlas of the Internatio­nal Basketball Federation (Fiba) Medical and Doping Commission, among the speakers.

Some 250 participan­ts from local government units (LGUs), university and collegiate sports organizati­ons, national sports associatio­ns (NSAs) and other stakeholde­rs are expected to attend.

On July 19, the National Summit on Anti-Doping in Sport will be held with important issues on the matter to be discussed, among them the Internatio­nal Standard for Code Compliance by Signatorie­s.

On July 20 and 21, national coaches will join the anti-doping seminar where the World Anti-Doping Code 2015, Medical Disclosure­s and therapeuti­c Use exemptions, among many topics, will be tackled.

Dr. Alejandro Pineda, a PSC sports medicine doctor and PHI-NADO (Philippine National Anti-Doping Organizati­on) Head is at the helm of the back-to-back event.

“With recent developmen­ts happening, I believe this is very timely and useful for everyone," Pineda said.

The program, which was originally developed for 2017, ams to strengthen the anti-doping program in the Philippine­s.
