New traffic law violators to get citation tickets

- By Juliet C. Revita

THE Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) had started the enforcement of 20-second parking period for loading and unloading areas using the yellow box for passenger vehicles in designated areas.

In an interview yesterday with CTTMO head Dionisio Abude, he said that they will issue citation tickets for erring drivers who will not abide with the traffic rule.

However, he clarified that as of yesterday, only areas in A. Pichon Street, formerly Magallanes Street, San Pedro Street, and C.M. Recto Street have the 20-second signages. These are the areas where they would appre-

hend violators. “Yes, we already began our apprehension, but only those areas that have signages installed because according to the traffic code there should be a traffic sign,” he said.

They implemented the 20-second limit for vehicles picking up and dropping passengers to give way for the other passengers. But persons with disabilities (PWDs),pregnant women, and senior citizens are exempted.

CTTMO is still making more traffic signages to be posted in designated areas with yellow box. Abude said that their next targets are Ramon Magsaysay Avenue and Matina near NCCC Mall.

Abude, however, said he has yet to obtain data on apprehension of violators.

A P500 penalty will be fined against drivers for disregarding traffic signs, disregarding traffic regulation and obstruction.

Meanwhile, Abude yesterday said almost 3,000 PUV drivers attended the Public Utility Vehicle Drivers Education Program at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center. The program seeks to orient drivers on the traffic code as a prerequisite before they could acquire PUV ID from the CTTMO.

He said that he took advantage of it and informed them about the new traffic rule and urged them to adhere to it.
