DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio led the ceremonial distribution of the first batch of motor vehicle plates for four-wheeled vehicles yesterday, July 5, at the regional office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) along Quezon Boulevard, Davao City.

The mayor, in her message, hopes that remaining backlog of plates will soon be released.

"I'd like to thank the Land Transportation Office for your invitation to me to witness the

ceremonial distribution of plates. Hopefully, after the first batch of 1,000 plus plates we will address the backlog,” she said.

LTO 11, on its Facebook post, announced the releasing dates of the license plates, which has more advanced security features with its bar code, started yesterday for motor vehicle owners whose motor vehicles were registered on July 1, 2016 to September 30, 2016.

The license plates will be released by the New Registration Unit - Regional Office (NRURO).

Considering that some plate owners might not be able to claim their plates, LTO 11 arranged alternative ways so that they could get their plates without having to personally go to their office.

“Motor vehicle owners may request to claim their license plates at the LTO District Office nearest to their places of residence or arrange for a special mode of service for the delivery of the plates subject to the payment of the freight charges,” the post read.

It added that the plates can be release directly to the owners of the duly authorized representative upon presentation of the original copy of the certificate of registration (CR) and official receipt of payment (OR).

Should the owner send a representative, they must bring with them a notarized authorization letter with the ID of the owner and that of the representative.

LTO 11 advised the public to check their websites for more updates on the release of the next batch of plates.

They also underscored some changes as the Davao region has been assigned letter "L" as the first letter prefix appearing on the plate number. Thus, virtual plates issued with letter prefix "A" will be changed to "L".

For further information and inquiry for other modes of delivery of the plates, contact the LTO Regional office at telephone number (082)222-3301 and look for Cristita M. Ignacio or Christopher Blason.
