Unity in diversity

- By Abigail Joyce C. Cahiwat, MSU-Marawi Intern

JUST like a kaleidoscope with many different things, a rainbow, parallel with variety of colors, an alphabet with 26 letters that compose with uniquely diverse lines with the other, all these examples set on how our society exists like this way.

A society where diverse people are residing is a society that could lead to two concepts – unity or anarchy. Unity is something where people could live harmoniously despite and in spite of their differences. Their difference in gender, preference, ideologies, belief, religion and culture, could lead to a chaotic world. A world full of mishap and mayhem because of different principles each being is fighting for. And this society is something I couldn’t live with.

Imagine the ocean with its different corals and reefs, the classes of different mammals, reptiles, fishes that belonged there and the way they live accordingly. It is also the same with humans where they get to forget their cares away because they belong in humanity. This sense made us unite, because we know that we have the ability to feel emotions. And with these emotions, we get to learn to empathize, understand and more over love one another as we were taught when we were young. To hope that we will unite not only during in times of dilemma, but also in times that we need to value the class that we’re in, for in fact we belong to the topmost hierarchy of the creation.

Let us not make our differences be detrimental to the flicker of light that we are clinging to, for it would not lead us elsewhere. But, rather, may it be to whatever classification you’re in, as long as it helps ourselves and our society, we need to know that there will always be unity in diversity.
