6-Day Bayani Challenge begins

PANABO City Mayor James Gamao officially opened the Fourth Gawad Kalinga "Walang Iwanan" Bayani Challenge on July 9, 2018 at GK Village, Purim Humayan, Datu Abdul Dadia, Panabo City.

The Bayani Challenge, participated by residents of the village, the local government, national agencies, and several non-government agencies, aims to encourage on-ground volunteerism to build houses, empower communities, and transform lives. For six days, volunteers will be painting a two-storey building and construct 16 more GK dwelling units.

On July 15 or the 6th Day, a closing program will be conducted following an awarding ceremony for "Fastest Bayani Builders" and "Most Active Bayani Builders".

Aside from the Mayor, the opening ceremony was attended by Housing Committee Chairperson City Councilor Hon Wahid Ranain, Southern Mindanao GK Area Coordinator Mr Rene Rieta, City GK Project Director Engr Bernardo Rabanoz, Datu Abdul Brgy Captain Hon Allan Pangay, Housing Regulations Officer Emely G Anito, City Information Officer Michael Angelo Resueño, Deputy Chief of Police Frederick Deles, Fire Marshall Bong Jimenez, GK Committee members, Local government representatives of offices, University of Mindanao student researchers, and the GK Datu Abdul Community.
