Veterans, newbies share bike honors

DAVAO CITY -– Seasoned and new breed of cyclists dominated the 1st Araw ng Ma-a and Tropang Trumpo Mountain Bike Challenge at Riverside Camarin, Barangay Ma-a here on Sunday.

Some 70 cyclists competed in the 2,350-meter challenge.

Mario Buro, 14, bested 10 other riders to rule the youth category. He received a trophy and a cash prize of P1,000.

Former Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Dominic Carpio, for his part, outclassed Carlofer Salonga, 51; and Hilario “Boy” Ladra, 54, for the masters 50+ category.

The rest of the winners: veterans – Glen Yap, champion; Dominador Garcia, second; Zaldy “Byding” Pielago, third;

junior-senior – Melchor Labaya Jr., champion; Jayrald Daraydo, second; Orlando Sabijon, third; Reymond Madera, fourth; and Rodel Villaver, fifth; elite – Ronnie Urdaneta, champion; Melchor Labaya Jr., second; and Nathaniel Carisma, third; youth - Mario Buro, champion; Francis Jay Guilaran, second; and Dion Tristan Pinton, third.

The 1st Araw ng Ma-a and Tropang Trumpo Mountain Bike Challenge was organized by Tropang Trumpo Davao Bikers Associatio­n in partnershi­p with RaceLink and Barangay Ma-a Sports Division. The event was sponsored by Jenson Land Realty, Superstar Coconut Products, Lots4Less and EZ Ride Central Cycle.
