THE Kadayawan Festival 2018 will not only highlight the rich heritage of Davao City and the united tribes but also the Philippine Eagle through the staging of Kosplay Kadayawan.

Kadayawan Festival director Gatchi Gatchalian yesterday said that for the first time, they will hold the event this year to encourage the public to unleash their creativity and get inspiration from the city’s icon, the Philippine Eagle.

Kosplay (Cosplay) or Costume Play is a practice wherein participants will dress up to be a fictional character from the Japanese genres of manga and anime. It has been a trend among the youth and this time around, the organizers wanted it to be focused on the Philippine Eagle.

“Ang focus, for the many years, we never had any event centered on the Philippine Eagle. For the first time, we are creating an event just for the Philippine Eagle as an inspiration na gagamitin,” he said.

The event is scheduled on August 18, however, he said that there will be prefinals to be staged at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.

The schedule of the screening and mechanics will have yet to be announced while the announcement of winners will be during the IndakIndak sa Kadayawan.

Gathalian said that attractive prizes await winners.

“This is open to all hindi lang student but we wanted younger ones to really participate. Gusto naming mainvolve ang mga young ones kasi mahilig silang gumawa ng mga costume. They are so creative pero ang ginagawang inspiration anime,” he said.
