Sanitary landfill plan faces setback
DIGOS CITY - The technical working committee for the creation of sanitary landfill was delayed due to contractor’s problem.
Digos City agriculturist Roger Masculino on Wednesday said that the contractor during the first and second bidding failed to pass the necessary requirements.
Masculino that for the third time they will open another bidding that will be published in a national paper.
City engineer Algier Ramos explained that constructing a sanitary landfill is very different from constructing a building or government road projects.
“It is a very long process because the project is not easy to build,” he said.
Mayor Joseph Pe?as said that the city has to establish its own sanitary landfill because the open dumpsite is hazardous to public’s health.
The project is worth P30 million set aside from the local government’s loan of P400-million from the Development Bank of the Philippines.
He enjoined those who are against the idea of establishing sanitary landfill in the city to trust the Department of Environment and Natural Respurces (DENR) because opposing without alternatives will only further delay the project.
The mayor said that everyone must have an open mind. ORLANDO B. DINOY
