- Orlando B. Dinoy

DAVAO DEL SUR- Former Philippine National Police general director and currently Bureau of Corrections director Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa is not closing his door on running for public office in the 2019 midterm elections.

Rumors in the province said that dela Rosa will run for governor following his transfer of voter’s registration in Sta. Cruz town from Davao City. Dela Rosa is a native of Barangay Bato.

But dela Rosa said that “Senator Bato” is a possibility.

He said the transfer is only in preparation just in case President Rodrigo Duterte will decide that he will be push for governor.

“But as of now, no final decision yet from PRRD, option for Senate race is still open,” he said.

Dela Rosa has been a long-time companion of the president and repeatedly announced that he will only run for public office if Duterte wishes him to do so.

Dela Rosa has a good chance to become a Senator considering his popularity and was included in the Magic 12 of the Pulse Asia survey.

He gained his popularity when he was chosen by the president to become the first PNP chief under Duterte administration and being serious in the so-called drug war.

Majority of the mayors in Davao del Sur, however, expressed their support once Dela Rosa pushes through with his candidacy for governor or senator.
