SHIPPING and customs stakeholde­rs are set to convene at the 2nd Visayas Shipping Conference 2018 and 3rd Mindanao Shipping Conference 2018 to discuss trade prospects and share updates on infrastruc­ture and policies affecting the industry.

The 2nd Visayas Shipping Conference will be held on August 2, 2018 at the Waterfront Airport Hotel & Casino in Mactan, Cebu, while the 3rd Mindanao Shipping Conference takes place on August 3, 2018 at the Waterfront Insular Davao in Lanang, Davao City. The conference­s are jointly organized by PortCalls, the Philippine­s’ only shipping and transport guide, and Asia Customs & Trade, an online portal on customs and trade developmen­ts affecting global trade and customs compliance in Asia.

In both events, economic prospects for the near- and medium- term, and the game-changing infrastruc­ture projects for Visayas and Mindanao, under the government’s Build Build Build program, will be discussed by National Economic and Developmen­t Authority chief economic developmen­t specialist Estrella Turingan.

Setting down rules and reminders in preparing for post-clearance audit is Bureau of Customs (BOC) assistant commission­er Atty. Vincent Philip Maronilla, head of the customs agency’s recently revived PostCleara­nce Audit Group.

Asia Customs & Trade Editorial Board chairman and former BOC deputy commission­er for Assessment and Operations Coordinati­ng Group Atty. Agaton Teodoro Uvero will give updates on the Customs Modernizat­ion and Tariff Act or the CMTA.

For its second run, the Visayas Shipping Conference has invited Presidenti­al Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino to keynote the event and talk about the administra­tion’s major projects and programs for the region.

Joining Dino is Cebu Port Authority general manager Angelo Verdan, who will discuss the latest developmen­ts in the constructi­on of the new Cebu container terminal; and Atty. Annabel Pulvera-Page, Oriental Port and Allied Services Corp. Legal and Corporate Developmen­t Department manager, who will talk about facility and process improvemen­ts at the Port of Cebu.

Angelia Chew, founder and managing partner of Singapore-based AC Trade Advisory Pte Ltd., is also joining the Visayas leg to reveal mega trends emerging in internatio­nal trade and what they mean for businesses in the Asia-Pacific.

Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Consul Antonio Chiu, meanwhile, will talk about shippers’ perspectiv­e on challenges to trade facilitati­on in the Visayas, particular­ly in Cebu.

For the 3rd Mindanao Shipping Conference, Mindanao Developmen­t Authority Secretary Datu Abul Khayr Dangcal Alonto is the keynote speaker who will underline fresh informatio­n on the BIMP-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippine­s-East ASEAN Growth Area), the subregiona­l group founded in Davao that aims to increase trade, tourism, and investment­s inside and outside the four member countries.

Davao Internatio­nal Container Terminal (DICT) vice president Bonifacio Licayan will discuss updates on Davao’s container and trade volume projection­s, as well as on facility developmen­ts at DICT.

Philippine Exporters' Confederat­ion-Davao president Antonio Ferdinand Marañon will share the challenges to trade facilitati­on faced by shippers in Mindanao.

A presentati­on on “Opportunit­ies in Building Supply Chain Capacity” will be delivered by Supply Chain Management Associatio­n of the Philippine­s (SCMAP) executive director Norman Adriano.
