TWO soldiers were wounded on July 28, Saturday, after a landmine believed to have been planted by the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels exploded in Barangay Tambobong in Baguio District in Davao City.

Police identified the wounded soldiers as Private First Class Jejomar Judan and Sergeant Enrique Genon, of the PhilipMANILA pine Army’s 3rd Infantry Battalion led by Second Lt. Jeno Andig.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) in Davao Region reported that the incident took place at around 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lower Sitio Camarag in Tambobong while the troops were traveling on board a truck.

The troops managed to

fire back and move away from the area. Recovered from the area were fragments of the two improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The two wounded soldiers were brought to a hospital.

Police Regional Office-Davao spokesperson Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said they will coordinate with the military to conduct an in-depth investigation on the incident and file necessary charges against those behind the explosion.

“The police members of the PRO-Davao condemn this act since perpetrators still using landmines as obvious violation in the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law,” Driz said. ICT
