26,063 motorbikes get clean rider stickers
A TOTAL of 26,063 motorcycles in the region were registered and received clean rider stickers during yesterday’s simultaneous launching of “Oplan Clean Riders” of the Philippine National Police (PNP), an anti-criminality campaign geared to eradicate motorcycle–related crimes.
Police Regional Office (PRO 11) spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said yesterday that the five provinces and Davao City were given about 4,000 stickers each.
PNP placed the Clean Rider sticker at the back of drivers’ licenses and on the motorcycles. The stickers that will be distributed will have a serial number and security feature. Once given, it means that the documents of the vehicle was inspected and validated to address the crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects and to address motor theft incidents in the country.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in her message delivered by Davao City Councilor Maria Belen Acosta
during the launching of the campaign in Davao City at Rizal Park, hailed the PNP’s initiative of launching the activity designed to reduce motorcycle-related crimes in the city.
In Davao City alone, in 2017, they accounted 20 cases of motornapping.
“Through this clean rider campaign, we can achieve a zero motornapping prevalence in the near future. More on the identification, verification being conducted by the regional intelligence division prior to the issuance of the clean rider stickers,” Duterter-Carpio said.
She believed that the Davao City police is in a good fight against the modus of riding in tandem and similar schemes in a bid for cleaner, safer, and secured riders.
“Beyond all these, I call all Dabawenyos to be one with the police force in the implementation of Senate Bill No. 1397 known as the Motorcycle crime Prevention Act of 2017 in opposition to the misuse as modern day crime machines,” she added.
For those who have not yet registered, motorcycle owners are encouraged to register and fill out an application form in police stations.
