Centered on the theme Revolutionizing RDE into Greater Heights, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) conducted the 31st Uniwide RDE Symposium on July 18-19, 2018 at D’Leonor Inland Resort and Adventure Park in Davao City.
Researchers from all campuses of the university participated in the activity, where they presented papers on topics grouped into the following clusters: Social Sciences and Education; Business and Economics; Engineering, Technology, and Computing; and Agriculture, Aquatic, Environment, and Natural Resources.
Among the research papers that were ranked 1st place in each cluster include the following: Women Entrepreneurship through Alalay sa Barangay (ABP) in Davao City by Dr. Rosfe Corlae D. Badoy, Philippine Rice Programs in Retrospect by Prof. Joeteddy B. Bugarin, and Pilot Testing of Pre-, On-, and Post-Harvest Facilities for Mango at the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), Davao del Norte by Engr. Ben-Hur C. Rafosala, PhD.
In his Welcome Remarks, Dr. Danilo B. Pacoy, Vice President for RDE, highlighted the importance of research in helping people become self-sufficient. He also shared how investing in science and technology solves problems in communities.
“We have to learn from the past, to see where we succeeded so that we can duplicate that success, and to understand where we’ve fallen short and correct these shortcomings,” he said.
The two-day symposium was also conducted to develop a strong research culture in USeP, which envisions to become a premier research university in the ASEAN.
