Winless teams shore up PVL bids

-

MANILA - Two skids will be snapped while two others will be stretched as winless St. Beniide, San Beda U, San Sebastian and Perpetual Help tangle in a pair of rare Thursday matches in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Lady Blazers and the Lady Red Spikers break a two-game spell in their 2 p.m. faceoff with the winner bouncing back into contention in the short single round robin phase of the mid-season conference of the league organized by Sports Vision.

Also with two setbacks, the Lady Stags likewise try to crash into the win column in their 4 p.m. showdown with the Lady Altas, who dropped their first three games via shutout losses.

FEU and UST show the way with 3-0 cards with Adamson and UP taking the next two spots with 2-0 and 1-0 slates, respectively. The top four teams after the elims will advance to the crossover semis.

St. Benilde actually dragged pre-tournament favorite Far Eastern U to a five-setter and yielded a four-set setback to another early title contender Adamson U with new coach Jerry Yu hopeful of finally getting the breaks against the Lady Red Spikers, who lost in four to FEU and bowed to UST in three.

Though Nieza Viray emerged as the second leading scorer with 34 hits in the early going of the league backed by Mikasa and Asics and setter Lynne Matias is tops in her department with a 5.57 norm per set, they lack bench support with twin Jiezela, Satrriani Espiritu, Grace Manzano, siblings Aurea and Daryl Racraquin still trying to find their groove.PR
