WATER CRISIS IN BRGY ILANG

Homeowners at Pag-asa resettleme­nt in Bunawan currently relying on water pumps for their daily water supply

The Pag-asa resettleme­nt homeowners in Brgy. Ilang, Davao City said that it has been a week that they are experienci­ng water crisis.

“Among tubig diri bomba, luoy kaayo among bomba diha. Among gusto ipaabot sa gobyerno nga madali unta ang pagkuan sa bomba (Our water supply here is through water pumps, it is very inadequate.

What we want is for the government to hear us and get the process on water supply here get done faster),

“Vircelina Suarez, President of Pag-asa Homeowners Associatio­n and one of the beneficiar­ies of the pabahay program for biyaya ng pagbabago, said during an interview with Sun. Star Davao yesterday.

“Naay tubig pero tag-50 ang drum, unya dili baya na igo sa is aka adlaw. Kay manglaba, maligo pa ka, manghugas plato, ug unsa pa (We can buy water for P50 per drum, but it will not be enough for washing clothes, taking a bath, washing dishes, and many more),” Suarez added.

The homeowners received 129 relocation houses last October 2015 as part of the risk reduction initiative of the government for floodprone residents in the said barangay.

Meanwhile, Presidenti­al Communicat­ions Operations Office (PCOO) Undersecre­tary Lorraine Badoy and Social Housing Finance Corporatio­n President Arnolfo Ricardo Cabling visited the relocation site to identify other needs of homeowners yesterday.

“We are just going to go around and check,” Badoy said, adding that their office wants to see the relocation site firsthand and the status of the people there./
