Smitten by Ben&Ben

Ihave to admit: I have never been a fan of new local bands for quite a while now. The last time I went gaga over a music group was when Eraserheads and Ely Buendia were at the peak of their career. I was in high school then.

Now that I am already a mom of two teenagers, who are musicians themselves, everyday seems like a concert at home. I would always hear them play musical instruments while belting some songs I am not familiar.

When they learned that Ben&Ben was having a show at Abreeza Mall in Davao City, they got so excited. Thank you heaps to the marketing team of the mall for constantly giving my family a chance to enjoy great shows for free!

Last Sunday, August 19, the three of us joined the crowd of Dabawenyo fans who all looked giddy to finally see the nine-member band perform right in front of their eyes. The entire Activity Center of the shopping hub was teeming with people anticipating the show of Ben&Ben when we arrived. So I told myself: “They must be famous and good.”

Being an old soul, I have always been in love with old music. However, as I watched the group perform live, I slowly realized why the young generation fell in love with them. In fact, I have already become one of their followers.

I really have to commend brothers Miguel and Paolo Guico (vocals and guitars), Poch Barretto (lead guitars), Jam Villanueva (drums), Agnes Reoma (bass), Patricia Lasaten (keyboards), Toni Muñoz (percussions), Andrew de Pano (percussions and back-up vocals), and Keifer Cabugao (violin) for doing a fun show during the 33rd Kadayawan Festival! Their team that prepared all their instruments prior to the show did an awesome job, too.

Apart from their performance, what I also like about them was the way they maintained their connection with their audience.

During the almost an hour show, Ben&Ben performed “Bibingka” which is about a love story that happened in Christmas; “Branches,” the song about moving on; “Leaves” which talks about optimism; the love song “Maybe the Night”; and the highly famous “Kathang-Isip” and “Ride Home.”

Thank you so much, Abreeza Mall! Until the next shows.
