‘Victor Magtanggol’ cast proud of series

Alden Richards, other cast unfazed amid criticisms

Alden Richards and the entire cast of “Victor Magtanggol,” the newest superhero television series of GMA Network, have been proud of their project despite the negative comments that have been hurled at them, especially when they show was just starting out.

In an interview with the Davao entertainment press last August 19 at Rekado restaurant, the bedimpled actor never displayed any negativity amid the fact that many questioned their show, particularly discrediting it for being a “Thor” wannabe.

A number of memes comparing it with the American superhero had flooded the social media. There was even one which did a parody of the Pinoy teleserye, saying that it must be named “VicTHOR Magtanggol.”

“Mas nauna kasing na-introduce si Thor, so, nagkaroon ng standards,” Alden said, while adding that their show never copied anything.

“Wala po kaming ginaya,” he said. “Nagkaroon lang po talaga ng standards.”

Inspired by Norse mythology, the Kapuso Network’s series features an aspect of the lead character’s life that has never been included in any of Thor’s movies.

“May characters sa ‘Victor Magtanggo!’ na wala sa ‘Thor,’ like hindi nila alam na may wife at kids si Thor,” he continued.

When it comes to the public’s bashing, he had this to say: “I’ve already outgrown the negativities of the social media world.”

Meanwhile, Pancho Magno, who portrays the role of Modi, Thor’s son and the god of battle who will eventually be one of Victor’s biggest rivals, shared that their show’s special effects are really something that makes it standout as well, apart from the story and versatility of the cast.

“Grabe ang effects namin,” he said. “Ang challenge ay iyong adaptation natin na Pinoy talaga.”

He also revealed that the costumes they are wearing durinh tapings weigh 15 pounds. He pointed out that this is aimed at making their characters look more realistic on screen.

Together with Alden and Pancho during their latest trip here for the Kadayawan Festival were Andrea Torres, the teleserye’s Sif, Thor’s last wife and the golden-haired goddess of love and family who trains Victor how to control his power and use the Mjolnir; Dion Ignacio who plays Perci Domingo, Victor’s funny brother-in-law; and Kristoffer Martin who gives life to the character of Lance Espiritu, the brooding and enigmatic stepson of Hector (Eric Quizon).

Helmed by topnotch director Dominic Zapata, “Victor Magtanggol” airs from Monday to Friday on GMA Telebabad. ### For comments and suggestions, please feel free to reach me at mendoza.jennygrace@ gmail.com.
