Robbery suspect yields

One of the suspects behind the series of robbery incidents in Tagum City, Davao del Norte surrendere­d to authoritie­s on Tuesday, August 28, while his two other cohorts are still at large.

Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 spokespers­on, yesterday identified the suspect as Peter Carlo C. Riña, 32, of Mankilam, Tagum City. He was the person seen in the closed circuit television (CCTV) footage carrying a shotgun.

Driz said Riña surrendere­d in Laak town where he was hiding for fear for his life after learning that Tagum City Police operatives were tracking him and his companions.

The suspect surrendere­d bringing with him his stolen items including one piece of shotgun with three pieces ammunition which he stole from a security guard; one unit of black cash box; and one Suzuki Raider motorcycle, which they used as their getaway vehicle.

Police are also doing their best to recover other items that the robbers had carted away.

It can be recalled that there were series of robbery incidents in Tagum City last August 21 and 22 with the same suspects as identified by the victims/ complainan­ts. Riña is now under the custody of Tagum City Police Station for the filing of cases.

“A case of Anti-fencing law and illegal possession of firearms will be filed against the suspect thru inquest proceeding­s. PRO 11 will continue to intensify its criminalit­y campaign and we appeal to the public for cooperatio­n in preventing crimes,” Driz added.
