Sara: City has taken steps vs rape

-

“This positive effect of government action should not be lost in the repertoire of the President and the attacks by those who hate his guts and humor. I can truthfully say that there was action and positive effect” SARA Z. DUTERTE -CARPIO Davao City Mayor

Despite the alarming cases of rape in the city, Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio maintained that the city has done its part and was able to implement interventions to address these problems.

The city mayor said in a statement the Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) is tasked to conduct research and implement programs to curb the rising incidence of rape. They have also been active in solving this perennial problem.

“There have been several interventions conducted by the City Government and its partner agencies. One of these interventions and the most effective of which targeted communities where children are taught about sexuality and sexual abuse, including when a touch by a family member is no longer appropriate and acceptable,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio said most of these cases are incestuous rape committed by the relative of the victims or those who are close to them.

She noted that the interventions spearheaded by CSSDO reduced the rape cases across the city from 120 in January to June 2017 to 95 in the same period of 2018 based on the data of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and Investigation and Detection Manaagement Board (IDMB).

This positive effect of government action should not be lost in the repertoire of the President and the attacks by those who hate his guts and humor. I can truthfully say that there was action and positive effect,” she stressed.

To the critics, Duterte-Carpio, “And I pose this question to all who seemingly want to see Davao City fail — what have you done to help?” /
