RAILWAY COURSE EYED FOR MINDANAO
The Department of Transportation is looking into partnering with engineering schools in Mindanao for an academic course on railway management.
With the upcoming Mindanao Railway project, an academic course on railway management might be needed, an official said.
Department of Transportation (DoTr) and Mindanao Railway project manager Patricia Melizza B. Ruivivar said the academe would be a big help in assisting the railway development of infrastructure projects.
She added the universities and colleges in Davao offering engineering programs are also eyed as partners for this.
“With the potential of the brilliance of our Filipino pool of engineers, we need their ideas as well in order to create better infrastructures,” Ruivivar said during a media forum on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Philippine Information Agency, Davao City.
She added that the Department of Transportation initiated the building of Philippine Railway Institute.
"We are hoping to also come up with a similar one here in Mindanao, by then it would be called Mindanao Railway Insititute,” Ruivivar said.
Ruivivar said in this way the issue on manpower in building the railway projects can be addressed.
“Because we can ask our consultants to transfer their skills and set of knowledge and technology to the local human resource pool as part of their engagements with the projects that we have,” Ruivivar added. /
