The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) underscores the vital role of media, including SunStar Davao, in promoting grassroots sports in the periphery
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), mandated by President Rodrigo R. Duterte to bring grassroots sports development to the countryside, has always valued its partnership with the media including SunStar Davao.
PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said, “SunStar has been very supportive of Duterte Sports direction in charting an effective driver for a genuine grassroots sports program in the periphery. Thus, making sports accessible to the community.”
PSC Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, former editor of SunStar Davao, said the press has always been their partners.

He added, “SunStar Davao has been there in our journey since the time the agency was created through RA 6847 in 1990. We value this partnership with SunStar Davao as we embark on our sports promotion throughout the country specifically on grassroots development.”
Meanwhile, PSC Public Communications Office (PCO) head Emmalyn Perez de Tagle-Bamba said that in the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, the PSC embarked on a stronger and more active campaign to strengthen grassroots sports and touch the youth in the far reaches of the country.
She also said new programs like the Children’s Games, Indigenous People’s Games, Visayas Open joined established programs like the Philippine National Games, Women in Sports and Batang Pinoy to cover the requirements of the different sectors of our communities, effectively supporting the goal of the President to bring sports to everyone.
“SunStar has been a steadfast partner in this endeavor, delivering the message of the PSC about the benefits of sports and play in molding a strong and healthy citizenry,” she added, thanking SunStar for helping them disseminate information about projects and programs the public may access.
She congratulated SunStar, “We wish you more years of reliable, truthful and objective news service.”
PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, for his part, greeted: “Congratulations SunStar Davao for your 23rd anniversary! Here’s to a continuing partnership in pursuit of sports development!”
