With their grit and guts, young movers of Emar Human Environmental College won this year’s Unit 5 Private Schools Athletics Association (Prisaa) Elementary Cheerdance Competition last September 6, 2018 held at the Rizal Memorial College Flying V Fil Oil Arena in Davao City.

Their coordination, facial expression, grace and all-out performance convinced the judges and the crowd that they deserve the gold medal despite practicing for just two weeks before the competition.

Winning second was the Southern Philippines Baptists Academy, followed by the Independent Liberty Baptist Academy on third place while Amigo School of Calinan ranked fourth.

The three other schools also put up spectacular dance routines and cheers that the audience cannot imagine elementary students can pull off. With their colourful props and costumes, the three other schools made the competition even more exciting with their supporters’ cheers and applause from the bleachers. Yet, Emar emerged this year’s best cheerdance competition.

Geylord Tobes, Emar’s dance coach, said after the announcement of winners that they just wanted to enjoy the moment and did not even expect to top the competition at all.

Meanwhile, Prisaa Unit 5 chairperson and Emar president Ma. Lita Montalban said in her speech before the start of the competition that she wanted the participants to have the spirit of humility and to have fun while competing with each other.

The feeling of accomplishment was etched on their faces as medals were being awarded to them on stage even as the next three other school teams displayed the true spirit of sportsmanship.
