Powerhouse Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) lived up to its billing by harvesting a total of 13 gold medals, 10 silvers and six bronzes at the start of the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) Sportsfest swimming competition at the Fr. Martinez Sports Center, Addu Matina campus yesterday.
Addu tankers Joshua Raphael del Rio and sisters Alyanna and Alissa Lazarraga led Addu’s medal haul with two golds each.
The 15-year-old Del Rio timed nine minutes and 2.87 seconds, racing past Charles Evan Ubina of the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) and Addu’s Emilio Marlou Cordero who got the silver and bronze, respectively, in 800m freestyle finals.
Del Rio, who garnered seven golds last year, also topped the secondary boys 200m individual medley (IM) event, clocking 2:19.51 over Assumption College of Davao’s Edward Alfaro III (2:29.62) and Ubina (2:32.87).
“I’m aiming to win all seven events again this year,” Del Rio said in a Facebook Live interview with SunStar Davao, hoping that he also gets to play seven events in the Palarong Pambansa.
