Davao and its water

-

Since the start of September, the Davao City Water District (DCWD) has issued 14 advisories of water interruption on their official Facebook page.

Of this number, 12 are emergency water interruptions with the main reason being mainline leak repair while the other two are advanced notice of service interruption to upgrade their services. According to DCWD, mainlines are large pipes that serve as the main thoroughfare of the water.

Despite the DCWD’s efforts to improve, some parts of the city continue to experience problems with water supply whether it is the stability when it comes to the delivery of water to their homes; the quality of water they get; or their access to it.

The DCWD management by now would have already known the sentiments of Dabawenyos when it comes to their service. Evident by the rating their Facebook Page gets.

Recently, DCWD announced that they will add another well and a reservoir in Upper Piedad, Toril District to solve water interruption in the area. Upper Piedad is one of the areas in the city experiencing problems when it comes to water supply.

“We will be constructing an additional well, which will add down around 4,000 to 5,000 cubic meters of water per day,” DCWD spokesperson Jovana Duhaylungsod said.

“Aside po sa well, we will also be constructing a reservoir,” she said, adding that the reservoir will be placed in a much more elevated area.

DCWD is doing a lot to improve its services through upgrading its infrastructure. However, with the rate of the city’s growth, they must keep up.

We can observe different developments in the city’s downtown area and this has now also spread to the suburbs and rural areas of the city.

If it does not keep up, then Davao City can experience some sort of water crisis in the near future.
