LUNHAW AWARDEES BARED

The 6th Lunhaw Awards, held at the Grand Men Seng Hotel last September 26, recognized a total of 12 awardees for green initiative­s in Davao City which can be replicated in homes and communitie­s.

“The Lunhaw Awards is all about recognizin­g the green initiative­s so that they can be replicated by other Dabawenyos. So it's not really a formal contest where there are winners or may ranking first, second, etc.,” Florence Baula, Lunhaw Awards head organizer, said in an e-mail to SunStar Davao yesterday.

The awardees: Maxey Atog for his Small Space Urban Organic Garden; Francis Eric Tan for his La Fermette Dairy Farm to Table Concept; Jera Lambac for the Green Mountain; Nagkahiusa­ng Mananagat sa Bago Aplaya; Green Building of the University of Mindanao; Winifredo Cabatu for his Centralize­d Solar Water System; Baguio District United Women's Associatio­n for their Women's Plastic Strip Weaving; Care Channels Social Enterprise­s Inc. and San Pablo Parish Rainwater for its Catchment System.

San Roque Elementary School's Gulayan sa Paaralan won the education and advocacy category while the the special awardee for outstandin­g local government unit (LGU) was awarded to Barangay Tacunan and the special award for youth green champion was Julito Burgos. /
