NEW SLAUGHTERHOUSE
All of Davao City’s slaughterhouses will be transferred to a slaughterhouse to be built in Malagos
A new slaughterhouse in Davao City, with a budget of P86 million, is expected to be ready six years from now.
Chief of the city economic enterprise Maribeth Lumactod said there have been complaints from the residents around slaughterhouses in the city so the operations will be transferred to the new slaughterhouse as soon as it will be finished.
“We are thankful sa Department of Agriculture na gitagaan ta ug money to construct a new slaughterhouse in Malagos para tanan slaughterhouses will be transferred (we were given a budget to build a new slaughterhouse),” Lumactod said.
“Intended ra unta na siya for the third District, but because of the propping out of problems sa slaughterhouse sa Maa, gihimuan nato sa city na at the same time, mabalhin pud [ang Maa slaughterhouse] didto (It was supposed to be intended for the third District slaughterhouses but because of the problems arising in the Maa slaughterhouse, we will also include it),” Lumactod added.
She said they are waiting for the new slaughterhouse to be constructed while they have been inspecting and monitoring.
“We are under public-private partnership (PPP) under Bankerohan Livestock Multi-purpose Cooperative (BLMPC), so sila nang muhatag sa amoa as to pila ang nakatay (they will report as to how many have been slaughtered) ,” Lumactod said, explaining their monitoring process.
Meanwhile, she also said that since the new is still not ready, they have been advising the slaughterhouses to make sure to have proper drainage and clean area for sanitation.
“We are trying our very best kay naga-question man ang atong mga [residents] so it is one reason nganong nay project (We are trying our very best in inspection because some residents have been complaining.
It is one reason why there is this kind of project),” Lumactod said.
The new slaughterhouse will be located in Malagos and it will also consist a Halal slaughter area with a budget of P6 million from the total budget allocated./
