Davao City’s shift to Light Emitting Diode (LED) as streetlights will start in October this year, an official said.

Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) executive vice president and chief operating officer engineer Rodger Velasco said the shift enables the city to consume less energy without compromising the city’s need for sufficient light during night time.

“We are going in a partnership program with the city where we will replace all sodium lamps in Davao City with LED. This will be a three-year program,” Velasco said during a media forum on Monday, September 24,2018 at Davao Light and Power Company Corporate Center Davao City.

He added that Davao city mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will be announcing this shift into LED lights in her State of the City Address (Soca) this coming

“Ang pagupdate sa pagchange into LED kay usa ka city ordinance coming from council. Ug ang role sa Davao Light is to invest sa LED lights ug pagretrieve sa sodium lights (The update on the change to LED is a city ordinance coming from the council. And the role of Davao Light is to invest on LED lights and retreive the sodium lights),” Velasco said in an interview.

In previous reports, DLPC had already demonstrated using LED light for the streetlights along C.M. Recto and San Pedro streets using 100 lights.

In 2017, then Davao City Councilor, now Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag said that the conversion will cost about P700 million.

“I cannot share much with the financial details with the LED lights because I might be pre-empting the SOCA of our city mayor this October,” Velasco added. /
