The Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Lady Crusaders scored an eight-peat after thrashing arch-rival Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Lady Blue Knights, 78-33, in the finals of the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) 2018 Games College women’s basketball tournament held at the Addu Jacinto Campus Martin Hall Basketball Gym in Davao City.

The Lady Crusaders’ feat is history in women’s Dacs basketball and for head coach Paola Salvador.

“There’s no secret at all. It’s about practice and culture,” Salvador, in an interview with Sun Star Davao, said.

She said they train everyday.

“Because what we do in our trainings is exactly what we are going to do in our games. Actual games are just the extension of our trainings,” the multi-titled coach said.

She, however, lauded the players for believing in the system.

“It’s really not about winning for me. It’s really about the process. Alongside trusting the process, is trusting my players and assistant coach that we can do it,” Salvador said, pertaining to her brother Caloy, who served as her assistant coach. The team was composed of Celeste Dizon, Joy Tagalog, Alrine Baluran, Fergely Janeo, Sandy Macabenta, Sarah Seniego, Bethany Nengasca, Vanessa Villarosa, Sychie Regacho, Irha Alfeche, Jean Cabunilas, Fretzie Bestudio, Abigail Macasa, Jovine Suico, Kristel Arajain and Lady Orihuela.

The Lady Crusaders will represent Dacs in the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (Ceal) Games 2018.
