With the upcoming election next year, former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte will run for congressman, City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio told reporters yesterday, October 1, 2018, also announcing her plan to run again as City Mayor. “Sa congressman sa first district, Paolo Duterte is running,” Duterte-Carpio said.

For his part, Duterte said, “Let us cross the bridge when we get there. I am still in consultation with my supporters and my family.”

Duterte resigned as vice mayor of Davao City last December 25, 2017 citing “unfortunate events,” including allegations linking him to the smuggling of P6.4 billion worth of shabu from China and his family problems, as among the reasons for his resignation.

Despite his resignation, a survey conducted by the University of Mindanao - Institute of Popular Opinion (UM-IPO) showed that 58 percent of the respondents expressed that they still trust and have confidence in Duterte.

Meanwhile, Sara also announced that she has already chosen someone to run as her vice mayor.

“As Vice Mayor naa nako napili but dili nako am-announce because naa pay rearrangements, naa pay gusto mugukod for the filing (For Vice Mayor, I have chosen already but I cannot announce the name yet because there are still rearrangements. Someone still wanted to file for the position),” she added.

Soca

Sara also said she will lay down the economic and social status of the city during her State of the City Address (Soca) today, October 2.

“We will present the accomplishments and what to expect for 2019 and kadtong what we can and cannot deliver,” she said adding that they will proceed to the promises they were able to keep or not and the reason why they were not able to do it.

“It will be very realistic, we will not coat anything. Kung unsa ang wala nahuman, wala gyud nahuman. Ang kulang, kulang gyud (It will be very realistic, we will not coat anything, if there are things we were not able to finish or lack),” she said.
