The National Commission for Indigenous People (NCIP) urged the members of the Klata tribe’s Council of elders to submit their genealogy requirement after they received report that some of them have no Klata blood before holding a selection for the Indigenous Peoples’ Mandatory Representative (IPMR).

NCIP Davao Provincial Office Provincial Officer Cristito D. Inga, during yesterday’s forum, said they required members of the Council of Elders to submit their requirements as early as possible.

The Council of Elders or Talaukom is responsible for the selection of IPMR of their tribe. Before conducting the IPMR selection, he said they will first ensure they are qualified.

“Katong niaging selection process, atong nadikubrehan nga dili tanan miyembro sa Council of elders Klata tribe. Naay uban Ovu Manovu, nya ang uban Tagabawa (Last selection process, we discovered that not all the members of the Council of Elders of Klata Tribe. Some are Ovu Manovu, some are Tagabawa),” he said, adding that they cleaned their records after the IPMR controversy.

By the end of the year, once they complete the process, they will proceed with the selection process. There are already some Klata members who have signified their interest to be an IMPR.

Davao City Councilor Bai Halila Sudagar is the IPMR on a hold-over status until a new representative will be selected following the controversy on the selection of IPMR Cherry Ann Codilla when she failed to meet the mandatory genealogical qualification.
