-

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa 11) bared the five families who were nominated for the Search for Model OFW Family of the Year Awardees (Mofya) 2018 in the region.

Owwa 11 Programs and Services and Division chief Carmelo Elaya said Mofya started 2005. It is an award-giving program designed to give recognition to outstanding OFW families and promote best practices in achieving optimal success in all aspects of life in the face of overseas migration of one or more members of the household.

The award does not only focus on the success of the overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) but also the status of their families.

After the Selection and Screening Committee has completed the validation and deliberation process last September 28, they selected five family winners who will be awarded on October 7 at the GOCC Room of the Ritz Hotels at Garden Oases, Davao City.

In the land-based category, the nominees are Zita De Vera Doronio, a domestic worker in Hong Kong and Singapore of Purok 1, New Ilocos, Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Elmor Cerezo Zolina, an apiary technician in Canada, of Purok 1-A, Katipunan, Kapalong, Davao del Norte; Engineer Roberto Silatan Liwanan, an electrical engineer in Qatar, of Bilawan 2, Barangay Central, Mati City, Davao Oriental.

In sea-based category, Engineer Isidro Freo Frayna, a chief engineer – E.R. Crew Management (Worldwide) of St. Belisario Heights Subdivision Lanang, Davao City and seafarer Patrocenio Manligoy Reyes, a third engineer at NYK Filshi Management (Worldwide) of Barangay San Antonio, Cateel, Davao Oriental were nominated.

These families were nominated by registered non-government organization, people’s organization, religious organizations, community-based socio-civic organizations, and OFW Family Circle Associations who have known them for their capability and potentials.

Elaya said that they were screened, evaluated and validated by the members of the committee based on family wholesomeness, their achievements, community involvements, success in children’s education, success in managing family finances and maintaining strong family ties.

“Giving recognition to deserving OFW families will serve as an inspiration to other families to emulate their example. The winner will represent the Davao region in the national finals in December,” he said.

The award does not only focus on the success of the overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) but also the status of their families.
