Disaster stricken farmers to get PCA 11 help

-

With the threat of natural calamities like typhoons, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA 11) continues to implement project to assist coconut farmers in increasing their yield.

PCA officer-in-charge division chief Djoana Eve Rivera said the coconut authority has prepared ample number of projects in addressing possible natural calamities, which may cause serious damage in the coconut plantation in Davao region.

“Alam naman natin na malaking bahagi ng bansa natin ay dinadayo ng bagyo na nagdadala rin ng malalakas na hangin na maaring sumira sa mga niyogan natin,” Djoana said in an interview.

Djoana said PCA has Accelerated Coconut Planting and Replanting Project (ACPRP) which seeks to replace senile and typhoon damaged coconut trees.

The components of the ACPRP include Particapatory Coconut Planting Project (PCPP), which gives cash incentive for farmers for every good coconut seedling produced in their own farms; Coconut Seedlings Dispersal Project (CSDP), which distributes good quality coconut seedling to farmers and partner implementers like the local government units (LGU), and non-government organizations among others; and Indigneous People’s Outreach Program (IPOP) which is crafted to suit the involvement of indigenous peoples (IPs) in coconut planting.
