DOT TO LAUNCH TOURISM GUIDEBOOK
A guidebook on sustainable tourism development is seen crucial to fully maximize Philippine destinations’ tourism potentials at the same time protect the environment.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) is set to launch the first sustainable tourism development guidebook in 2019 to secure sustainable tourism in developing Philippine’s top tourist destinations.
DOT officer Alex Millari Macatuno said educating Filipinos on how the environment should be taken cared of is an important aspect in ensuring the current progress of the tourism sector in the country.
“The to-be launched guidebook will be a guide for all tourism stakeholders in developing their tourism plans,” Macatuno said Thursday, October 04, 2018 during the Tourism and the Digital Transformation Conference at Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City.
He added the usual guidelines on sustainable tourism development seen online are made for an international setup but never local.
“We are getting inputs from different stakeholders. We went to the different (tourist) destinations and to the different regions to get their inputs and comments on what would be the elements of the sustainable development,” Macatuno said.
He also said the following contents to be part in the guidebook are: economic, environment, social and cultural, and management implications of achieving sustainable tourism.
“We will be conducting advocacy programs again to bring down the guidebook to the stakeholders. It will be turned over and discussed with the locals, and will be rolled out in different regional offices,” Macatuno said. /
