Island Garden City of Samal - Residents of Babak District availed of the free medical services during a medical mission held on September 28, 2018 at Babak Samal Gymnasium, Barangay Pichon.

The medical mission dubbed as “Malasakit Para Sa May Sakit” aims to provide free medical services to the communities which have limited access to basic health care, giving the sick an opportunity to be checked by a medical specialist.

“Pasalamat mi kay naay libre, ilabi na karon mahal na ang magpa-check up ug ang eyeglasses. Kung naa pay oras mag pa tan-aw sad ko sa akong ngipon. Ang akong anak nagpila pud para magpacheck up sa iyang matris (I am thankful for these free medical services, especially nowadays where eye check up and eyeglasses are so expensive. If there is still time I would like to avail also of the dental services. My daughter is also queuing for her ovary check up),” Cresilda Cabilic, 51 years old of Barangay Balet said.

Initial check up and interview were conducted at the registration area to determine the ailment and what medical assistance to be served. Doctor's prescription was given after the check up, afterwhich the recipient lined up for their medicine.

The activity was organized by the executive and legislative of Province Davao del Norte in partnership with the local government unit of the Island Garden City of Samal. All resources from the two branches and the local government were merged to provide all the possible medical needs of the people. Doctors and nurses were from Davao Regional Medical Center of Tagum City and the whole team of the City Health Office of Samal Island led by Dr. Dennis Carlos Flores.
